Attempted murder arrests after man shot

A man aged 20 and a sixteen-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after man in his 40s was shot.

It was reported that suspects fired at a house on Balmer Hill, in Gainford, near Darlington, at about 20:10 BST on Saturday, and then left.

A 46-year-old man is in a critical but stable condition after suffering birdshot injuries to his abdomen.

Durham Police said no one else at the address was injured and officers remained at the scene.

Both suspects remain in custody.

The teenager has also been arrested on suspicion of theft, failing to stop and driving without a licence.
