A motorcyclist has suffered what were believed to be serious injuries in a crash on the M42 motorway.

The bike and a car crashed on the southbound carriageway, between junctions 10 for Tamworth and nine for Curdworth, Warwickshire, at about 04:00 BST.

The rider, a man believed to be in his 20s, was taken to hospital by the ambulance service, Warwickshire Police said.

The motorway was closed southbound shortly after the incident while emergency services worked at the scene, with long delays reported in the area.

Once police concluded their investigations, all lanes were reopened at about 07:00, and the residual queues have since cleared, National Highways said.
