Constable Richard Vibert said the smell in St Peter was linked to work to upgrade the sewage network

A parish leader has promised that help is on the way for people putting up with the smell of sewage around St Peter's Village.

Jersey Constable Richard Vibert said the smell was linked to work to upgrade the sewage network to support development in the parish.

Infrastructure and Environment has confirmed that it is sending a team next week to jet wash and clean the system.

It said "these smells are likely linked to ongoing works as part of the sewage network upgrade" due to foul water staying in the system and creating the issue.

Infrastructure and Environment said: "Temporary isolations and prolonged pumping have been required during this phase.

"This can result in foul water being retained in parts of the system and may contribute to odour issues.

"Arrangements are already in place to install seal plates, which are expected to reduce odours once fitted."
