Families welcome 'exciting' King Charles visit
BBCManx residents have told of their delight at the prospect of welcoming King Charles to the island in the monarch's planned visit next week.
It will mark His Majesty's first visit since 2012 and his first as King.
As a crown dependency, the King is also the Isle of Man's head of state, holding the title of Lord of Mann.
Douglas resident Julie Hristov said: "I think it's great for the King to come here and we can see him for the first time - very exciting."
She said the island would be "very happy" to welcome him.
During his visit on Tuesday, the King is due to address a special sitting of Tynwald in Douglas.
The speech will see him follow in the footsteps of his late mother Queen Elizabeth, who addressed the Manx parliament in 1955.
Also from Douglas, Mike Quaggan and Barbara Havard said they "always like a bit of royalty over".
They said they did not see Queen Camilla when she visited in 2024, when Douglas received its city status, but they hoped to see King Charles this time.
The King is also set to visit Douglas Bay Horse Tramway to mark its 150th anniversary, and take a ride in a recently restored double-decker No 18, the world's oldest in-service tramcar.
Quaggan said: "He'll enjoy the double decker."
Colby resident Bill Holgate agreed, and said: "I'm sure he will."
He said while he missed the former prince's last visit, his wife saw him wave from the car as his entourage passed their home in the south of the island.
"It's good for him to come I think, being Lord of Mann," he added.
Nancy Wynn, from Onchan, said she was disappointed the monarch had not been at this year's Tynwald Day on Monday.
But she welcomed the news he would be arriving next week instead.
She said: "I'm sure there are a few Manx people that wouldn't say it was as important, but it'd be nice to see him.
"It's tradition isn't it?".
