Driver in his 30s dies after car crashes into tree

A driver has died after his car crashed into a tree during the early hours of the morning.

The man, in his 30s, had been on Redbourn Road, in St Albans, at about 01:00 BST when his Audi A4 hit the tree and he died at the scene.

According to Hertfordshire Police, he was heading towards Hemel Hempstead. The cause of the crash had not been established and the force appealed for information.

The man's next of kin have been informed and they were being supported by specialist officers.

Sgt Luke Morley, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: "Firstly, our thoughts are with the man's loved ones at this incredibly distressing time.

"Our inquiries are ongoing as we continue to piece together what happened."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information or dashcam footage has been asked to contact the police.
