Patrol teams offer anti-social behaviour support

Events and community patrols are taking place in Wolverhampton with teams offering advice and support during ASB (anti-social behaviour) Awareness Week.

Organisations including Wolverhampton Homes, which is responsible for managing most of the city's council homes, West Midlands Police, the council and the Wolverhampton ASB Team are part of the initiative.

People involved met residents in Ashmore Park and around Rocket and Grapes Pool in Bilston on Tuesday, with further activities also due this week in the city.

The national campaign aims to raise awareness of the impact ASB has, while encouraging people to report incidents and seek support.

ASB could take many forms, from graffiti, fly tipping and littering to "noisy neighbours, disruptive behaviour, intimidation, verbal abuse and drug-related activity", the council said.

Obaida Ahmed, cabinet member for health, wellbeing and community, said ASB could "have a serious impact on people's lives, affecting their wellbeing, their sense of safety and their enjoyment of their local area".

"Too often people put up with problems without telling anyone, but nobody should suffer in silence," she added.

Ahmed said the week was "a great opportunity to highlight the support that is available and remind residents that if they are experiencing anti-social behaviour, help is there".

The national campaign, organised by community safety organisation Resolve, aims to raise awareness of the effect ASB can have on individuals and communities.
