Rising tides warning as swimmer rescued

Sea swimmers have been warned about quickly rising tides after a man was rescued when he became stranded on rocks at a Dorset coastal landmark.

Weymouth RNLI said the 25-year-old had been swimming around the coastline on Monday afternoon when he became cut off by the incoming tide.

It said he had sustained minor injuries and was becoming hypothermic when he was picked up by an inshore lifeboat.

The RNLI said: "This incident is a reminder that tides can rise quickly, cutting off escape routes with little warning."

The casualty was transported to Lulworth where he was handed into the care of HM Coastguard.

"If you're exploring our Dorset coastline, check the tide times before setting out and avoid taking unnecessary risks around cliffs and rocks," the RNLI added.
