Two arrested after crash kills cyclist

Two men have been arrested and are in custody following the crash

A man has died after a crash involving a car and a bicycle.

Emergency services were called to Preston Road North, in Tynemouth, North Tyneside, at 21:00 BST on Wednesday, with the cyclist taken to hospital where he later died.

A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, while a second man, 30, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The pair had been in a black Volkswagen Scirocco and both remained in custody, Northumbria Police said.

The cyclist's next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from officers.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the crash to contact them.
