Access to a waterway in Bradgate Park has been closed due to a burst sewage pipe.

The Bradgate Park Trust said there was no access to the river at the site in Newtown Linford, Leicestershire, due to pollution from the burst pipe nearby.

Severn Trent said the burst to the waste water pipe had been stopped and its "priority" was to complete repairs "as quickly as possible".

A spokesperson added: "We'd like to thank local residents and visitors for their patience while this work continues."

The park trust advised children and pets to be kept away from the water.

Severn Trent said it would continue to monitor the situation while carrying out any necessary repairs and clean-up work.
