City centre one-way system 'may cause disruption'
Gloucestershire County CouncilTemporary one-way systems are being put in place in a city centre as part of work on a multi-million pound cycle route.
Alvin Street in the Kingsholm area of Gloucester will be one-way for four months from 2 June from London Road, as work on the Bishop's Cleeve to Stroud cycle spine progresses.
From 10 June drivers will not be able drive from London Road towards the city centre between Great Western Road and Bruton Way.
Councillor Roger Whyborn, cabinet member for sustainable transport at Gloucestershire County Council, said: "There's a lot of disruption while the works are going in, but it will be a lot better afterwards."
The cycle spine is a £48m project which will connect Bishops Cleeve in the north of the county to Stroud in the south, also linking Gloucester and Cheltenham.
Gloucestershire County Council said the scheme was designed to "help to reduce carbon emissions and encourage active travel".
Concerns about delays have previously been raised by Kingsholm residents.
Contractors Montel Engineering have been carrying out work on behalf of the council since February to connect the existing cycle lane on London Road to Northgate Street.

In the latest phase of the scheme, the new footpath and cycleway on London Road alongside St Peter's Church will open by 9 June .
The footpath in front of Roberts Limbrick will be closed from 10 June along with road access to Bruton Way and Black Dog Way with a one-way system.
