Reform UK has picked up another seat on West Northamptonshire Council after a by-election in the Hackleton and Roade ward.

It was called after the resignation of independent councillor Adam Smith, who was originally elected as a Reform councillor but suspended by the party one month after last May's local elections.

The result of the by-election saw Reform's Laura Christine Weston elected to the ward.

Weston received 31% of the votes, ahead of Conservative candidate Maggie Clubley with 24%. The turnout for the by-election was 50.4%, up from 36% a year ago.

Weston will represent the ward alongside Conservative councillor Fiona Cole who was voted in last May along with Smith.

The full results for the by-election were:

  • Laura Christine Weston, Reform UK: 1,355 votes (31%)
  • Maggie Clubley, Conservative: 1,051 (24%)
  • Stephen Gordon Shellabear, Liberal Democrats: 986 (22%)
  • Dave Pearson, Green Party: 623 (14%)
  • Peter French, Labour and Co-operative Party: 212, (5%)
  • Ron Johnson, Independent: 203 (5%)
