Man lay in pool of blood after ambush, court hears

The nephew of a man whose hand was chopped off during an "ambush" in a Bradford street last year has described his recollections of the attack to a jury.

Bradford Crown Court heard how Mohammed Usama Khan was also allegedly attacked with a machete during the late-night incident in Tickhill Street, Bradford in May last year.

Khan suffered two wounds to his neck as he "ran for his life" after a VW Tiguan, being driven by his uncle Mohammed Zayad Khan, was rammed by three other vehicles, the court heard.

He told the jury, he and his uncle they had been "ambushed by multiple vehicles" and gave descriptions and names for some of the men alleged to have been involved.

Khan alleged that as he ran past a man known to him as "Hanzalah", he was struck on the neck with a machete.

He said he was bleeding from his neck wounds when he got into the back of a friend's Range Rover and was driven away.

When they returned to the area, at the junction of Seymour Street and Mount Street, he told the jury he saw his uncle laid on the ground "in a pool of blood".

Khan said: "I seen his hand chopped off... all his leg [was] cut open, and he had gashes and blood all over him."

Five men are on trial accused of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

A female defendant, who was a Police Community Support Officer at the time, faces an allegation of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice along with one of the co-defendants.

Mohammed Waqqas Khan, 27, of Folkestone Street, Bradford, 42-year-old Rahees Khan, of no fixed abode, Hanzalah Saladin, 27, of no fixed abode, 38-year-old Ijaz Khan, of Kimberley Street, Bradford and Adam Takolia, 29, of no fixed abode, have all denied charges of conspiracy to murder the two men.

They also deny an alternative charge of conspiracy to cause the men grievous bodily harm with intent.

Rahees Khan and Alice Dobson, 30, from Baildon, deny a further allegation of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The trial continues.
