Man dies and eight injured in two-car crash

A man has died and eight people have been left injured following a serious collision between two cars near Wakefield.

The crash happened on Doncaster Road near Nostell, between Lidget Lane and Foulby Farm, at about 14:00 BST on Wednesday.

It involved a black Ford Galaxy Zetec being driven in the direction of Nostell and a white Volkswagen Touran R-Line which was being driven in the opposite direction, according to a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson.

The passenger in the Galaxy, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, while the car's driver, a woman also in her 70s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Two adults and five children who were travelling in the Touran suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, the force spokesperson said.

Anyone who saw what happened, or who had footage from the scene, was asked to contact police.
