Railway lines through Guildford have been temporarily closed due to engineering works.

Lines will be shut between the town and Aldershot in Hampshire, as well as between Woking and Haslemere in Surrey, throughout Sunday, according to South Western Railway.

Its services between London Waterloo and Guildford or Portsmouth Harbour will be replaced by buses for the closed sections of their routes.

Great Western Railway said its trains from Reading, in Berkshire, to Gatwick Airport will stop at North Camp, with replacement buses provided.

Buses will stop at Guildford and Gatwick and will also replace trains between North Camp and Redhill, it said.

South Western Railway warned passengers "replacement vehicles may be busier than usual" and advised allowing extra time for journeys.

The lines through Guildford are expected to reopen on Monday.

Further closures for engineering works are scheduled for 25 October between Guildford and Petersfield, Hampshire, and on the line to Gatwick, with buses again replacing trains on affected services.
