Rapist jailed after admitting attack on woman

A rapist has been jailed for more than eight years.

Phill Blunt, from Scarborough, was due to stand trial for the offence in July but changed his plea at the last moment, according to North Yorkshire Police.

A force spokesperson said the victim had been preparing to give evidence in court following a "long-running investigation".

Blunt, 39, was sentenced to eight years and six months in prison during a hearing at York Crown Court on Tuesday.

In a statement, the victim said: "Reporting him to the police was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but it was also the best decision I could have made."

Blunt was also made subject to a restraining order to protect the victim in the future and placed on the Register of Sex Offenders indefinitely.
