A fire service has confirmed it is battling a "large field fire" on the outskirts of a town that is being treated as "suspicious".

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said it had six fire appliances tackling the five-hectare blaze in Norton Fitzwarren, near Taunton, "on two fronts" as it had spread over fields and into woodland.

The fire service said it was called out at about 14:00 BST and used a drone to monitor the fire while crews used hose reel jets, fire beaters and water backpacks.

Avon and Somerset Police said it was "treating this incident as suspicious" while inquiries continue.

Traffic is being managed while a road closure is in place, but no homes have had to be evacuated.

People are being asked to avoid the area while crews continue to tackle the fire.
