Man held after woman stabbed at Conservative club

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 24-year-old woman was stabbed at a Conservative club, police have said.

Wiltshire Police were called to Westbury Conservative Club, in Alfred Street, at 00:45 BST on Sunday where they found a woman with a knife wound.

The woman was taken to hospital to be treated for her injuries which were not thought to be life threatening.

Police said a 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a 21-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and assaulting a member of the public.

"There would have been numerous people present at the venue where this disorder took place," said DS Kayne Borresen, from Wiltshire Police.

"We are actively investigating the circumstances in which a woman appears to have been stabbed and others were assaulted.

"It is important that we hear from anyone who was at the scene and may have witnessed what took place."
