Bowling green closed until tree removed
BBCA bowling green where part of a tree fell remains out of use and a competition taking place there has been paused, a council has said.
One person was taken to hospital and two others were treated at the scene in Victoria Park, Leamington, on Sunday.
Warwick District Council said it and Bowls England had wished the three competitors a speedy recovery and a para bowls competition which was taking place had been "temporarily paused".
The nearby cafe remains open but the greens are closed so the county council's forestry team "can assess the damage and remove the remainder of the tree" within a few days, it added.
According to the Bowls England website, the venue was hosting a para pairs competition qualifier for the National Bowls Finals in August.
After the work to remove the tree "Bowls England will review resuming the Para Bowls competition", the district council said.
The safety of the venue was "of the utmost importance to the council", it added, which was why the greens were currently out of use.
The path around them has been fenced off but the cafe can be accessed via the gate near The Cricketers pub.
The authority added its annual programme of tree inspections covered "all trees in our parks and gardens and focuses on areas of high footfall".
Victoria Park is set to host the 2027 World Bowls Championship.
Earlier on Tuesday, Warwick District Council said its full council meeting on Wednesday would be postponed until 1 July at 18:00 BST, due to the red weather warning currently in place.
