Double killer denies attack on prison officer
BBCDouble killer Simon Levy has denied allegations that he stabbed a prison officer with a pen and tried to strangle him at HMP Belmarsh.
The 41-year-old, who is serving a whole-life sentence for the murder of two women and the violent rape of a third woman, is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation.
The alleged incident took place whilst Levy, formerly of Tottenham, north London, was being held on remand on 18 February.
Appearing via videolink from prison, Levy entered not guilty pleas to both charges at Woolwich Crown Court on Monday.
Levy was previously given a whole-life prison term in August for the murders of grandmother Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo, 53, and mother-of-four Sheryl Wilkins, 39, last year.
The killings came after he had carried out a series of sexual assaults on the Tube and raped a woman in a car park.
Judge Charlotte Welsh ordered Levy to stand trial for the latest two charges on 15 February next year, in a case expected to last up to four days.
She adjourned the case until a further hearing on 13 November and scheduled a pre-trial review for 19 January next year.
