Plans could bring a range of health and wellbeing services together

Initial funding has been agreed as part of plans for a new neighbourhood health centre in Seaford.

Lewes District Council and NHS Surrey and Sussex Integrated Care Board said they were working together on the next phase of the project.

The work will assess the potential of land including the council-owned Richmond Road car park and help to develop a more detailed business case for the health centre.

Amy Galea, from NHS Surrey and Sussex, said the centre would make it easier for residents to access health, care and wellbeing services in one location and help meet the town's future healthcare needs.

Council leader Zoe Nicholson said it was the "best news possible for residents in Seaford who have waited patiently for the new and modern healthcare facilities that will make such a positive difference to their lives".

Seaford MP James MacCleary said the announcement was "a real step in the right direction".

He said: "While there is still work to do, today's announcement brings us one step closer to making this vision a reality."
