Learner driver arrested as child seriously injured

A learner driver has been arrested after a child on a bicycle sustained life-threatening injuries in a collision with a car.

The incident involving a red Citroen C4 happened on St Martin's Way, Thetford, just before 15:00 BST on Sunday.

The boy was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where he remains, Norfolk Police said.

Two women in the Citroen, a learner driver in her 30s and a supervising passenger in her 50s, were arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

They have been bailed until December.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have relevant dashcam footage to contact them.
