Four released on bail in city murder investigation

Four people arrested as part of a murder investigation after a man was stabbed in Leicester have been released on bail.

Leicestershire Police said a police car was flagged down in London Road, near Saxby Street, by a man who had "significant injuries" to his chest and stomach at about 22:45 BST on Wednesday.

Paramedics were called and the man, in his 20s, was taken to hospital, where he died in the early hours of Thursday, the force added.

On Friday, two men, both 52, and two women, both 43, were held on suspicion of assisting an offender and have now been released on bail. Six men, aged between 18 and 33, were also arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.

One of the men arrested on suspicion of murder was also detained on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class B drugs.

Police believe the injured man was stabbed in De Montfort Place.

A post-mortem examination has confirmed the victim sustained multiple injuries, including three stab wounds.

Det Insp Lorna Granville, from the East Midlands special operations unit major crime team, said: "Although several people are in custody, I'm continuing to appeal for anyone who has information but has not yet spoken to police to come forward.

"This includes anyone who was driving in the area between 22:30 and 23:00 on Wednesday night.

"Anything you can tell us, no matter how insignificant you think it is, could be important.

"I'd like to thank people who live and work in the area for coming forward with information and assisting us, particularly in relation to capturing vital CCTV," she added.
