A fire that caused "significant" damage to a commercial building, including a partial roof collapse, has been brough under control, said the fire service.

The blaze broke out at the building off Micheldever Road in Whitchurch, Hampshire, shortly before 15:00 BST on Saturday.

At the height of the fire, 12 fire engines, two aerial ladder platforms and specialist vehicles were sent to tackle the flames.

Crews remained at the site overnight, dealing with hotspots and monitoring the building. The cause of the fire was not yet know, said Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service (HIWFRS).

Significant amounts of smoke affected the surrounding area, with road closures in place and nearby residents advised to keep their doors and windows closed.

Firefighters used five main jets and two hose-reel jets to extinguish the blaze. Two aerial platforms were also deployed to fight the fire from above.

A fire investigator was examining the scene on Sunday to determine the cause as road closures continued, said HIWFRS.
