Campervan fire damages homes and causes power cut

An overnight campervan fire has damaged nearby homes and caused a power cut.

Crews were called to West Bay Road, Bridport, Dorset, at 02:26 BST where the white campervan, parked on a driveway, was well alight.

The fire spread to two neighbouring houses where windows, soffits and guttering were damaged, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

Overhead power cables were also affected, causing a power cut to the two properties, which have since been reconnected.

The fire service said crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and thermal imaging cameras to tackle the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.

They also removed gas cylinders from the vehicle and cooled them until they were safe.

National Grid initially estimated 44 properties had been impacted by the power cut, but later confirmed it was two.
