Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward

A man in his 70s has died following a single vehicle crash in the Republic of Ireland.

Gardaí (Irish police) say that the collision involved a motorcycle and occurred at approximately 10:50 local time at Drumsillagh, Tullyvin, County Cavan on Sunday.

"The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 70s, was removed from the scene by paramedics before being airlifted to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where he was pronounced deceased late yesterday evening."

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

The road was closed to allow examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened.

Three other men died at the weekend in separate road traffic accidents in counties Donegal, Kildare and Cork.
