Splash pad upgrade planned over winter

Council bosses are splashing out on a new water play area in Bakewell.

The splash pad at Bakewell Recreation Ground is to close for upgrade works from Tuesday, said Derbyshire Dales District Council, with the facility set to reopen in April.

A nature-themed design was chosen with interactive elements including a "garden bug" with tipping bucket, the authority said.

The investment follows work to Hall Leys Park in Matlock which took place over the winter from 2024 to 2025 and at Ashbourne Recreation Ground which began in 2025 and opened earlier this year.

The district council has said the Bakewell works will cost about £165,000, with the money coming from existing council funds.
