A ferry company is arranging extra services between Jersey, France and the UK ahead of expected strong winds.

DFDS confirmed some sailings had been cancelled and others were under review while it monitored weather conditions.

Gusts could reach up to 65mph (104km/h) on Friday, according to Jersey Met.

Chris Parker, route director for Jersey, said disruption to services was "unavoidable" due to the forecast and said teams were doing "everything possible to minimise the impact".

Parker said: "We are planning additional sailings and adjusting schedules wherever conditions allow.

"Safety must always come first, but we will do everything we reasonably can to keep passengers and freight moving."

The ferry operator said it would directly contact passengers affected by cancellations or timetable changes.

It said there would be an additional high-speed return sailing between Jersey and St Malo on 26 October, with an extra Stena Vinga sailing on the Portsmouth route on 25 October.

Both remain subject to weather and operational conditions, it added.

DFDS said it was adjusting departure times where possible to take advantage of suitable weather conditions and it was using freight vessel Caesarea Trader to keep supplies moving.
