Sophie set to focus on sustainable food on visit

The Duchess of Edinburgh is set to visit Jersey next month to look at the work being done to make the island's fishing and farming industries sustainable.

She was due to spend two days in Jersey next month and hear about how young people are being educated on where their food comes from, organsiers said.

The duchess was due to meet representatives from Jersey's dairy and potato industries, as well as representatives of Jersey's seafood and fishing industry to speak about balancing production with sustainability, they added.

The visit on 23-24 June is due to finish with a visit to the visual-impairment charity Eyecan.

The charity celebrated its 140th anniversary of supporting those with sight loss in the island this year.

The duchess supports a number of organisations that work to tackle avoidable blindness and prevent sight loss.

During the visit, there will be a reception at Government House to support the NSPCC, which she has been a patron of since 2016.
