Fire causes significant damage to derelict building

The roof of a derelict building has collapsed following a suspected arson attack on Saturday.

Fire crews were called to the disused building in Maplin Way, Shoeburyness, Essex, at about 19:00 BST, where no one was hurt but the building suffered "significant damage", police said.

Essex fire service said: "Firefighters worked hard to extinguish the fire which caused the roof to collapse."

An investigation will now take place to discover the cause of the fire, both services confirmed.
