Man arrested after roof incident shuts street

There was a cordon in place while the incident was ongoing

A man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and criminal damage in Ipswich town centre on Tuesday morning after reports of things being thrown off roofs.

Emergency services were called at 02:20 BST to a building in Carr Street. A cordon was put in place.

Suffolk Police said a man was throwing slates from the roofs of buildings including the former Woolworths, which is now home to Ipswich Bazaar and Vernon Fox.

The man came down just before 09:00 and was arrested before being taken to hospital for treatment.
