A 63-year-old man who was fatally struck by a lorry in South Yorkshire has been named as William Smith.

Mr Smith died shortly after midnight on 8 November after he was hit by the vehicle on Manchester Road in the Stocksbridge area.

In a statement issued through South Yorkshire Police, his family said: "William Smith was a very loved gentleman who would do anything for anyone and will be very much missed by his children, grandchildren and all his family and friends."

In a reference to the popular Sheffield Wednesday chant, 'we're all Wednesday aren't we?', the statement concluded: "WAWAW."

The investigation into what happened remains ongoing, police said on Saturday.
