Police have arrested three teenage boys following a fire at a shopping centre in Leicestershire.

Emergency services were sent to Thurmaston Shopping Centre in Barkby Thorpe Lane just after 04:15 BST on Saturday.

More than 40 firefighters were involved in the operation at its height, and police confirmed no-one was injured. Part of the centre has since had to be demolished.

Leicestershire Police confirmed it had now arrested three 13-year-old boys on suspicion of arson following a review of CCTV footage. They remain in custody.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that Greggs, cardfactory, Mountain Warehouse and Claire's were demolished.

A fire service investigation into what caused the blaze remains ongoing.

Det Insp Jim Willoughby said: "The fire service is still working to determine the exact cause of the fire but in order to ensure no possible evidential opportunities are lost, we have been carrying out a number of inquiries and are currently treating the fire as a suspected arson attack."

The force is continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
