A driver was caught travelling on a major road at what police described as a "dangerously high speed".

The Mercedes motorist was recorded driving at 147mph (236 km/h) on the A14 near Kentford, in Suffolk, just before 09:00 BST on 3 May.

That is more than double the national speed limit for the road, which is 70mph (112 km/h) for cars.

In a post published on Tuesday, Suffolk Police said the person behind the wheel would be "dealt with in court".

In 2024, 29,467 people were either killed or seriously injured as a result of a road traffic collision in Britain, with those travelling in cars accounting for 43% of deaths.
