Man admits killing brother by stabbing him 36 times

A man has admitted fatally stabbing his own brother at least 36 times in the head, chest and neck while on bail for arson.

Jack Mitten, 25, was found dead at a property in Lindum Road in Worthing, West Sussex, on 3 September 2025 by his aunt.

Taylor Mitten, 23, subsequently went on the run from police and shaved his beard in a bid to disguise himself, before being arrested three days later.

Mitten pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility at Lewes Crown Court in Hove on Friday. He will be sentenced in October.

When asked if he had killed his brother, Mitten replied: "Guilty."

At the time of the attack, Mitten was on bail from the Crown Court for conspiracy to commit arson and other offences.

After Jack's body was found, detectives named Mitten as the man they wanted to speak to in connection with the killing and warned the public not to approach him.

Mitten was later arrested in Curzon Close, Worthing, on suspicion of murder.

He had already pleaded guilty to setting fire to a Nissan Qashqai on 2 June 2020.
