Rochester Castle set to reopen after step repair
Getty ImagesRochester Castle in Kent is to reopen after closing for repairs earlier this month.
Medway Council said a staircase leading to the top of the nearly 900-year-old building needed fixing because part of a step had broken.
The local authority said the closure, which began on 14 June, was required as the steps were the only way to the top.
On Tuesday, the council said the repair had been completed earlier than planned and the castle would reopen on Wednesday.
Historic England, which manages the building with the authority, previously said the "imposing fortress" had a complex history of "destruction and rebuilding".
It added: "It stands as a proud reminder of the history of Rochester, along with the cathedral and cobbled streets."
