Up to £200k to be spent on storm damage repairs
Folkestone & Hythe District CouncilUp to £200,000 is to be spent on repairs to a section of a popular seafront after it was damaged by Storm Goretti.
Folkestone & Hythe District Council have agreed to spend the funds to mend the concrete breakwater at Mermaid Beach in Folkestone.
Connor McConville, cabinet member for assets and local government reorganisation, said: "I could not believe the damage was caused by one single storm, and unfortunately, it was not covered by our insurance due to the nature of the weather event.
"The rock structure which protects the coast is perfectly intact, but I know we'll all be pleased when we can use the concrete walkway again."
The repair works will be funded through underspends in last year's budget and is expected to be completed ahead of any possible winter storms, the council has said.
In January, Storm Goretti caused flooding, power cuts, water outages and travel disruption across Kent.
