Leicester City Council has said two car parks previously run by National Car Parks (NCP) have reopened.

More than 3,000 car parking spaces had been lost in Leicester since the company went into administration in March.

On Monday, the city council said Euro Car Parks confirmed to the authority on Friday that it had taken over the operation of the car parks located in St Nicholas Circle and East Street.

City mayor Sir Peter Soulsby said he understood there were "ongoing discussions" about the other car parks previously operated by NCP in Leicester.

NCP's administrator, PwC, decided to shut car parks at Lee Circle, Rutland Street, Abbey Street and East Street on 27 March, and the city council said on 15 April it had been informed the car park in St Nicholas Circle would cease operating.

The St Nicholas Circle car park has 651 spaces, while the East Street car park has 422 spaces, according to Euro Car Parks.

Soulsby said: "We were aware of Euro Car Parks' interest in these sites, and it's good to see that they have been able to reach an agreement with the owners of both buildings.

"While I am not able to comment in detail, I understand that there are ongoing discussions around the other car parks, and I hope they will deliver a positive outcome."
