Humber Bridge reopens after bus fire

Humber Bridge was fully closed due to a bus fire

The Humber Bridge has reopened after it was closed following a fire on a bus.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to the A15 near the slip road to Barton-upon-Humber at about 07:15 BST.

"All passengers and the driver [were] evacuated safely. We sent three fire engines and they quickly extinguished the fire," a spokesperson said.

"Our firefighters left the incident at 09:14. The incident has been left with Humberside Police and Bridge Board."

Traffic across the bridge was held up as firefighters tackled the blaze

A spokesperson for bus operator Stagecoach East Midlands said: "Smoke was detected from one of our vehicles as it travelled across the Humber Bridge at about 07:25 this morning.

"Our driver evacuated passengers from the vehicle safely and we are not aware of any reported injuries.

"Safety is our absolute priority. We will carry out a thorough investigation into the cause of this incident."
