A preferred bidder has been selected to buy an airport, months after the previous sale fell through.

Gloucester City Council and Cheltenham Borough Council - joint shareholders of Gloucestershire Airport - confirmed on Thursday a company had been successful in bidding for the 350-acre site at Staverton.

The councils said no further details about the successful bidder can be released as the process will now move into a period of due diligence.

In March, a previous attempt to sell the airport, running at an annual loss of about £2.1m, fell through after eight months of negotiations. Superdry founder Julian Dunkerton and business partner Chris Makin confirmed they were unsuccessful in their bid.
