Fire at abandoned Coatbridge school was started deliberately

A large fire that wrecked a former primary school building in North Lanarkshire was started deliberately, say police.

Six Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews were called to the former Greenhill Primary School site in at 17:35 Coatbridge on Tuesday.

The building dates from 1902 and was a primary school for more than a century until its closure in 2012.

The structure was badly damaged in the fire but there were no injuries. Police Scotland said inquiries were ongoing.
