Flag flown at half-mast after death at council meeting

A town council's flag is being flown at half-mast following the death of a member of the public at a meeting.

Attleborough Town Council said in a statement the person suffered a "serious medical emergency" during a council meeting on Monday and "subsequently passed away".

An air ambulance was sent to help, but the East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST) said despite all efforts, the patient died at the scene.

The council's deputy mayor, Daniel Piddington, said he extended his "heartfelt condolences to the individual's family and friends" on behalf of the authority, which is flying its flag at half-mast as a "mark of respect".

An EEAST spokesperson said it was called just after 20:40 BST to a "medical emergency" at Queen's Square in the town.

"Two ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle and the East Anglian Air Ambulance were sent to the scene," they said.

During a full Norfolk County Council meeting on Tuesday, Reform UK councillor Kabeer Kher said he had received absences from councillors Jacob Allen and Daniel Piddington, who he said had both been involved in the efforts to help.

Attleborough Town Council said it would not be commenting further at this time.
