Plans submitted to expand technical college

A technical college in Hull is planning to expand its campus with a new sixth form centre and additional classrooms.

Ron Dearing University Technical College has submitted plans to convert office space in The Maltings, on Silvester Street in the city centre.

The additional premises would function as an extension to the existing campus in Kingston Square.

The college offers employer-led education for children aged 14-18 and specialises in digital, engineering and art and design.

The plans include a sixth form centre incorporating independent study facilities, social and collaborative learning spaces, and a dedicated workspace.

The proposals also include five additional sixth form teaching classrooms.

Details of the submission include minor internal alterations, such as internal screening and turnstile access arrangements.

No external alterations are proposed.

Since opening in 2017, the college has experienced sustained growth and remains oversubscribed, although the plans are not expected to increase student capacity, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service,.

The state-funded college works with universities and employers to provide a curriculum tailored to local and regional skills needs.

The proposal is open for comment on the Hull City Council's planning portal until 8 October.
