The annual Winter Droving festival was previously held in Penrith

A festival which was criticised last month for its "sneaky" move to a new location has now been cancelled following storm warnings.

The Winter Droving had been held in Penrith for more than a decade but in September it was announced that the live music, outdoor performances and twilight procession would instead take place 20 miles (32km) away in Carlisle.

However, the festival, which was due to take place on Saturday, has been called-off ahead of Storm Boelo, which is expected to bring wet and windy weather across the region that day.

Eden Arts director Adrian Lochhead said the decision had been made to keep people safe and that they planned to run the event at a future date.

Lochhead previously said organisers had been working "until the last minute" to keep the event in Penrith but it had not been possible for financial reasons.

His comments came after Penrith Bid chair Dan Harding accused Eden Arts of "sneakily organising" the move, and Westmorland and Furness Council said it had been disappointed at the short notice given.

Yellow wind warnings are in place for Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England for Saturday and most of Sunday.
