Two men have been charged after both suffering injuries in a disturbance in Nottingham.

Officers were called to reports of a stabbing in Canal Street at 16:53 BST on Friday, and a 35-year-old man was taken to hospital with injuries the force said were not believed to be life-threatening.

A second man, aged 42, was found in a nearby flat with injuries to his arm, leg and face, believed to have been caused by a broken bottle, the police added. He was also taken to hospital.

On Monday, the force said Levi Wildridge, 42, of no fixed address, and Benjamin Mitchell, 35, of Mansfield Road, Nottingham, had been charged with wounding with intent and affray.

Wildridge was charged with possession of a knife in a public place, while Mitchell was charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

A 64-year-old man was also arrested on Friday of suspicion of affray and assisting an offender and was later released on conditional bail.

On Friday, the police placed cordons in Canal Street, between Carrington Street and the entrance to Broadmarsh car park.

A second cordon was in place outside Loxley House, the headquarters of Nottingham City Council.

Det Sgt Madeline Flint Foster said: "We take all reports of weapon-enabled crime extremely seriously and continue to take a zero-tolerance approach towards this sort of violence.

"I'd like to reassure people that we will continue to do everything in our power to protect the public, to ensure that those who carry weapons are dealt with quickly and appropriately."
