Long delays after M6 overnight roadworks overrun

Drivers have been facing delays of up to an an hour on a section of the M6 that remained shut after overnight roadworks overran, National Highways (NH) said.

The northbound stretch in Staffordshire between junction 11 for Shareshill, north of Wolverhampton, and junction 12 for Gailey was closed, leading to seven-mile tailbacks.

Problems were caused because of issues with tarmac supply and broken down machinery, NH said.

At about 09:30 BST, NH said the road had been cleared and reopened, but warned motorists that the tailbacks were continuing.

The roadworks had been expected to finish by 06:00.
