Plans have been revealed for a new 300-place teaching block at a state high school.

Suffolk County Council is looking to expand Ormiston Endeavour Academy, in Defoe Road, Ipswich, by 300 new places for pupils aged 11-16.

If approved, the block would cover 1,800 square metres and would serve about 1,200 pupils, addressing the need created by local housing developments north of Colchester Road.

A statement by Concertus, on behalf of the council, said the new block would be delivered by September 2027, ahead of that year's school intake.

"This expansion will deliver modern, inclusive facilities that support educational excellence and community engagement," the Concertus statement continued.

"The layout promotes cohesion and connectivity between Ormiston Endeavour Academy and Thomas Wolsey School [a special needs school]."

According to planning documents, the new block would have both standard, and information and communication technology (ICT) classrooms.

Dining facilities, a library and group study areas are also part of the plans, reports the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Suffolk County Council is now consulting on the plans.
