'Extensive damage' after Barnsley house fire

A house fire in Barnsley caused "extensive damage" but residents were uninjured, the fire service has confirmed.

Crews from South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service aided by West Yorkshire colleagues responded to the blaze in the roof space of two semi-detached properties on Wood Lane, Carlton, just after 03:00 BST on Friday.

The fire is believed to have started accidentally and a spokesperson for the brigade said its "thoughts are with the residents for the extensive damage this fire has caused".

Crews were at the scene until about 07:00 BST, they added.
