Initial plans for up to 500 homes on town edge
PA MediaA housing developer has signalled its intent to build up to 500 homes on the edge of Wigston.
David Wilson Homes has submitted documents to Oadby and Wigston Borough Council asking whether an environmental impact assessment (EIA) is required as part of a planning application for a housing development on land off Cooks Lane.
An EIA sets out the likely environmental impacts of a project and how they can be mitigated.
In documents submitted to the council, the developer said the proposed housing scheme - named Wigston Meadows Phase 3 - would incorporate "significant open space".
The site earmarked for development comprises about 35.6 hectares (87.9 acres) of agricultural fields, according to planning papers.
Documents added an outline planning application for the scheme was "forthcoming".
