Police believe they have identified a man found dead in a rooftop garden.

A body was found at a block of flats in Redcliff Street in Bristol at about 08:20 BST on Tuesday.

The man's identity was initially unknown but Avon and Somerset Police said officers now believe he was a man in his 50s, although formal identification has not yet taken place. The force said it had traced his next of kin and informed them of his death.

Officers are treating the death as suspicious and enquiries are being led by the force's major crime investigation team. Police said a post-mortem to determine the man's cause of death was due to take place on Wednesday.

Investigators are still conducting searches of the area and forensic enquiries of the scene, as well as speaking with local residents.

Supt Matt Ebbs said: "We know this incident will cause significant concern within the local community and our neighbourhood team will continue to carry out visible patrols, to provide reassurance and answer any questions."

Anyone with any information which they believe may be relevant to the investigation was asked to contact police.
