Work begins on repair to fire-damaged crematorium
Jennie Dennett/BBCWork has begun on repairs to a crematorium following a fire.
Thorncliffe Crematorium in Barrow, Cumbria, was shut on 26 March after its roof was damaged in the accidental blaze.
The repairs will be carried out alongside work to upgrade the cremators and the associated system in order to make the building more resilient, Westmorland and Furness Council said.
The council said the work was expected to take several weeks but cremations should resume from late July to early August.
Funerals in the chapel were able to resume on 15 April but cremations have been taking place in Lancaster and Beetham since the fire.
